The OS0-128 Rev7 leverages Ouster’s proprietary L3 chip, which is built on a custom, back-side illuminated (BSI) architecture.3 This technology significantly enhances performance by offering:

  • 10x Increase in Photon Sensitivity: Leading to superior detection capabilities, especially on challenging, dark objects like tires or black cars.
  • 50% Improvement in Precision: For more accurate distance measurements and better object classification.
  • Camera-Grade Data: In addition to 3D point cloud data (range, position), the sensor captures calibrated reflectivity y near-infrared (NIR) data, blurring the line between a Lidar and a camera for richer environmental perception.
  • On-Sensor Processing: New firmware features like 3D Zone Monitoring allow the sensor to detect objects within pre-defined 3D zones and trigger alerts, simplifying collision avoidance systems and offloading computation from the host platform.
