The Reach RX2 introduces tilt compensation to the Reach RX series. This feature enables you to measure points with a tilted pole while maintaining centimetre-level accuracy, even in challenging conditions. In terms of accuracy, it’s RTK + 2 mm + 0.3 mm/°. (This is the same as for the RS3.)

The tilt compensation mechanism works well near large metal constructions, cars, and electronics because the IMU chip inside does not use a magnetometer for calculations and is immune to magnetic disturbances. Each device is also individually calibrated at the factory and therefore requires no additional calibration by the user. However, to initialise it on site after turning the device on, you need to rotate it slightly. However, it takes much less time than it did with the RS3, as the algorithm has been enhanced. It is now five times faster and initialises in just a couple of moves — 7–10 seconds compared to 30–40 seconds for RS3.

On the subject of tilt compensation, we must mention the quick-release mechanism for attaching the device to a survey pole. This mechanism is designed not to compromise the accuracy of tilt compensation. In short, it’s a specific thread design and adapter that lock together perfectly and prevent backlash while tilting, which could affect the results of tilt compensation.

The RX2’s GNSS chip supports all existing constellations and bands, including GPS L5 and Beidou-3, and boasts 672 channels.
In the near future, it will also work with SSR corrections (also known as L-band) and services such as Galileo HAS, which allow good accuracy of 5–20 cm depending on the method, even without RTK.

Also, the RX2 has a new GNSS antenna that is more powerful and has better reception. Together with the new GNSS chip, it will enable the RX2 to work even under a tree canopy!
The RX2 supports RTK via NTRIP, providing centimetre-level accuracy.
The RX2 cannot be used as a base and doesn’t log raw data for PPK.

Light and powerful

Despite weighing less than a smartphone, the RX2 is still durable and powerful.

• It is IP68 rated, meaning it is water resistant in fresh water up to a depth of 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes.
• It works for up to 16 hours on one charge.

Compatibility with iOS

The RX2 has Made for iPhone (MFi) certification, which allows integration with iOS apps (not only Emlid Flow).

Problem solving

The RX2 is designed to make high-precision results accessible, even for people who are not professional surveyors. Many industries need accurate coordinates, but GNSS is not their main tool.

For these customers, RX2 offers:

• Versatility – works with existing workflows and apps. It can also be used for terrestrial scanning when attached to a handle.
• Scalability – easy to train entire teams if the company grows.

How we solve it

RX2 makes it very hard to go wrong. Users only need to connect to NTRIP—after that, the device takes care of the rest. The tilt compensation and strong antenna ensure accuracy in almost any environment.
Because it’s light and compact, customers can carry it anywhere and use it whenever needed. It also works with both iOS and Android, fitting easily into different industries and workflows.

Value for users & use-cases

The RX2 is simple enough for those new to GNSS to get started, yet professional and reliable enough for serious work. You can work almost anywhere with an internet connection and access to NTRIP. Nevertheless, we have identified several use cases that we have chosen as the main focus for RX2 positioning.

GIS & Esri market

The RX2 can improve the accuracy of GIS applications. Even though they seem to be okay with submeter accuracy, it is often due to a lack of other options. The RX2 fits perfectly into their workflows because it integrates with different GIS apps. We are especially interested in the ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, and Quick Capture apps from Esri because the Esri ecosystem is very popular and closed. Esri users are not very flexible, unlike QGIS/QField users, for example, who use open-source software. It’s also valuable that the RX2 has MFi and works with Field Maps on iOS. Emlid is also an official Esri partner.

Utility

Utility operations involve many trenches and hard-to-reach spots, so compactness and tilt compensation could be hugely beneficial. Additionally, the RX2 can be used for terrestrial scanning when fitted with a handle and scanning app. Users can measure dimensions and volumes of dug-up earth or simply monitor overall progress.

Construção

We’re not talking about heavy construction here, which may still require the services of a licensed surveyor or an experienced individual. However, there are everyday tasks such as staking fences, checking elevations, placing utility markers, and collecting site checkpoints that can be carried out by team members with no surveying experience. RX2 is scalable because it’s easy to learn and reduces the risk of errors.
We should also mention Emlid Flow, which covers almost all construction workflows, from topography to layout, and provides tools for team collaboration.

Landscaping

Landscaping lies somewhere between GIS and construction. It involves topography, design preparation, and layout, but this industry is not very familiar with high-accuracy devices. RX2 offers centimetre-level accuracy and simplicity, enabling users to work faster and make more informed decisions. Even if they already have their own software, Emlid Flow could still be useful to them because of its field data collection features and CAD integration.

Terrestrial scanning

Works with PIX4Dcatch and other scanning apps to capture precise 3D models of buildings, surfaces, and hard-to-reach areas — perfect for utility mapping, volume calculations, and as-built documentation.
