Key Features of the EDU Plus (U2) Model
-
Enhanced Articulation (28 DoF): Compared to the base G1, the U2 version typically features a 3-DoF waist (allowing for pitch, roll, and yaw) and wrist articulation, which significantly improves upper-body coordination and the robot’s ability to perform tasks in restricted spaces.
-
Advanced AI Perception:
Equipped with a Livox MID-360 3D LiDAR and an Intel RealSense D435i depth camera, the U2 provides 360-degree environmental mapping and precise spatial perception for autonomous navigation.
-
Secondary Development Platform:
The G1 EDU Plus is an open platform. It supports ROS, Python, and C++, allowing researchers to implement custom reinforcement learning, imitation learning, and “Robot World Model” (UnifoLM) algorithms.
-
Dexterous Hardware (Standard Hands):
The U2 usually comes with Dummy Hands with Wrists. While it supports Unitree’s Dex3-1 force-controlled fingers as an add-on, the U2’s mechanical structure is specifically reinforced to handle these upgrades better than the base model.
-
Audio Interaction:
Includes a 4-microphone array (with noise and echo cancellation) and a 5W stereo speaker, making it capable of voice recognition and speech feedback.
Why Choose the U2 Configuration?
The U2 (EDU Plus) is the “sweet spot” for university labs and R&D startups. It provides the high-performance computing (Orin NX) required for real-time AI vision and motion control that the consumer-grade G1 lacks, while offering more freedom of movement in the waist and wrists for better manipulation tasks.
Note: As of early 2026, the G1 series has received firmware updates (v3.2+) that allow for natural language task commanding through LLM integration, specifically optimized for the EDU models.
